Overview
This King 3B Silversonic Tenor Trombone, built in Cleveland, Ohio during the H.N. White era of the 1960s, features the classic 8″ sterling silver bell and standard .508 bore nickel silver handslide typical of vintage King 3B construction. The instrument retained original parts and showed careful maintenance over its life.
Prior to sale, the bell section received professional overhaul and relacquer work, and the handslide had been previously serviced and adjusted. Structurally the trombone remained sound, and the handslide operated smoothly following preparation. Case was not included with this instrument.
King 3B Silversonic models from the H.N. White Cleveland period remain respected examples of mid-century American brass manufacturing.
Player Perspective
The King 3B has long been associated with jazz ensemble and commercial playing and remains one of the most recognizable small-bore tenor designs. Silversonic versions feature sterling silver bells which, from a professional player’s perspective, require a bit more energy to fully resonate, but once mastered can produce remarkable tonal energy that many players appreciate.
Clean H.N. White era examples continue to be valued by players and collectors for their craftsmanship and historical importance within the King trombone lineage.
