This King 2B tenor trombone, serial number 306858, was built in 1950 during the celebrated H.N. White era in Cleveland. Known for their craftsmanship and signature “King sound,” H.N. White trombones of this period remain some of the most collectible jazz and commercial horns ever made. This example has all original parts, is structurally straight, and shows no evidence of dents or major repairs.
The horn was refinished over ten years ago. While buffing around the bell engraving softened some of the original detail, the overall appearance remains excellent and the instrument retains its proper character. The handslide is in very good condition, with only minor smooth wear on one inner tube. Response is clean and even, and the horn plays exactly as a vintage 2B should—focused, brilliant, and vibrant in the upper register, while maintaining a flexible and colorful sound for jazz, lead, and commercial work.
This trombone comes with a brand-new Italian-made case, designed in a classic style with two latches instead of zippers. Built with quality materials and fitted for a small bore instrument without an F-attachment, it provides excellent protection and a traditional feel. The case is similar to the one shown here, but fitted for a straight small bore.
FAQs
Q: What makes the King 2B from the H.N. White era special?
