Overview

The Marco Magi NN-TRK is a premium Italian-built hard case for straight tenor and F-attachment tenor trombones with bell sizes up to 8.5 inches. Designed to accommodate nearly all common tenor bore sizes—.547, .525, .500, and smaller jazz models—it is one of the most versatile and refined structured trombone cases available today.

This model is the result of a direct collaboration between The Brass Exchange and Marco Magi, building on years of feedback from working players and earlier NN-Series designs. Together, we refined the interior geometry, padding balance, and material choices to improve security, usability, and real-world durability. Compared to previous models we’ve developed, this version represents the most dialed-in interior Marco Magi has produced to date.

We’ve personally test-fitted the NN-TRK with a wide range of professional instruments, including Conn 6H, 88H / 88HO, 79H / 78H; Bach 16, 36, and 42 series; King 2B, 3B, and 4B; Yamaha Xeno; Shires Q-Series and Custom builds (including axial and other valve types); Edwards; Getzen; Courtois, and more. If your tenor trombone has an 8.5" bell or smaller, the NN-TRK will almost certainly accommodate it.

The NN-TRK features Marco Magi’s signature NN-Series two-tone exterior, developed specifically for this collaboration: rugged black synthetic side panels (the same material used in motorcycle seating), paired with suede-style brown leather top and bottom panels. This leather is intentionally understated and uncommon—soft to the touch, visually rich, and far removed from the glossy finishes seen on most production cases.

Inside, a deep burgundy long-loop velvet interior secures the instrument using precise interior geometry rather than loose blocks, shifting pads, or adjustable foam. Set the horn inside, close the lid, and the case does the rest—securely and consistently.

Many players also use the interior space to safely carry a small LED stand light, protected inside the case rather than loose in a gig bag, and without the risk of batteries switching on accidentally. It’s a practical solution that experienced players appreciate, especially for low-light stages and rehearsals.

At roughly 7 pounds, the NN-TRK offers gig-bag weight with true hard-case protection.

Player Perspective

This is the case I would take to a rehearsal or gig without thinking twice.

It’s light enough to carry all day, structured enough to protect a professional-level instrument, and refined enough that it looks appropriate in any setting—from orchestra pit to jazz club. The materials feel intentional, not decorative, and the case stays balanced and comfortable on your back or at your side.

There are no oversized pockets, no bulky compartments, and no unnecessary extras. Just a streamlined, well-designed case that reflects how working players actually move through a day: park, walk, rehearse, play, pack, and go home.
