KING

Archive Overview

This King 3B G Legend trombone was built in Eastlake, Ohio and remains one of the finest examples of the modern 3B line. The “G” denotes a gold-brass bell, 8 inches in diameter, paired with the classic .508-inch lightweight nickel-silver handslide. The result is the familiar 3B response with a subtly warmer, more rounded timbre — ideal for jazz, commercial, and studio work.

Lightly used by an adult owner and showing virtually no wear, this instrument was in like-new condition at the time of archival. It was fully inspected in our shop, with perfect alignment and a smooth, tension-free slide. The lacquered finish presents beautifully with rich color and depth.

This model differs tonally from the standard yellow-brass 3B: the gold-brass alloy softens the high-frequency overtones, producing a broader and more colorful sound that blends effortlessly in section or solo settings.

Includes the original factory King Legend case with backpack straps and a standard mouthpiece.

Common Questions

What is the difference between the King 3B and 3B G?
Both share the same .508 bore and slide design, but the 3B G’s gold-brass bell (higher copper content than yellow brass) yields a slightly darker and warmer sound. Players often choose it for added depth and tonal color in jazz or recording situations.

Why are Eastlake-era 3Bs still so respected?
Although production moved from Cleveland after the H.N. White era, Eastlake-built horns retained strong quality control and consistency. Many pro players continue to favor them for reliability, build precision, and playability straight out of the case.

Is this the same as an “open box” instrument?
No. This example was privately owned and carefully maintained. “Open box” usually refers to unsold dealer inventory or showroom test models, whereas this horn was professionally serviced and verified for condition and playability before sale.
