This Bach Corporation Era 3G large shank trombone mouthpiece was manufactured in Elkhart between approximately 1963 and the late 1970s. It comes from an estate collection and is offered in excellent condition, showing very little evidence of use. The mouthpiece has been professionally chemical cleaned and polished, with 100% intact silver plating and a clean, true rim and shank.

The Bach 3G occupies a unique position in the Bach lineup. With a rim diameter of approximately 26.26 mm, it sits squarely between common tenor and bass trombone mouthpieces. For comparison, a Bach 4G measures about 26.00 mm, while a 2G measures approximately 26.75 mm. This makes the 3G noticeably larger than standard tenor mouthpieces without crossing fully into bass trombone territory.

While the 3G is not a bass trombone mouthpiece, it can be extremely effective for tenor players looking for additional support, breadth, and stability in the low register. It is also a strong choice for bass trombonists doubling on tenor who are not comfortable moving down to smaller rims such as a 5G (approximately 25.50 mm). The larger rim provides familiarity and comfort while maintaining proper tenor trombone response.

Manufactured using traditional hand-lathe techniques rather than modern CNC processes, this Elkhart-era mouthpiece reflects the older Bach production style that many players continue to prefer for its feel and response.
