This Vincent Bach Corporation–era Model 6 small shank trombone mouthpiece was produced during the Elkhart period (circa 1963–late 1970s) and is a rarely encountered size within Bach’s historical mouthpiece lineup.
The Model 6 occupies an uncommon position between more familiar Bach sizes such as the 6½ and 6¾. With a 25.50 mm rim diameter, a medium-wide, well-rounded rim, and a fairly large cup, it was intended for players with a strong embouchure seeking a full, solid, and mellow tone while retaining the comfort and efficiency of a small-shank setup.
Small-shank Model 6 mouthpieces were produced in limited numbers and are no longer made. This is the first example we have encountered since the beginning of The Brass Exchange, making it an unusual find for players and collectors familiar with Bach’s traditional sizing patterns.
Offered in clean, player-ready condition, this mouthpiece will appeal to musicians who prefer slightly larger rim dimensions than a 7 or 7C without stepping fully into medium-large territory.
