King Tempo Student Trombone – Serviced & Player Ready
King trombones have been among the most popular American-made instruments for more than a century, and this pre-owned King Tempo is a dependable, budget-friendly student model ideal for school players. It features an 8" yellow brass bell, a .500 bore, and a nickel-silver outer slide — similar in size to a King 3B but with a slightly smaller bore (.500 vs. .508).
This horn has received full shop service, including a chemical bath, dent removal in several areas, a fresh water key pad, and careful slide alignment. The result is a smooth-playing, easy-speaking trombone suitable for new students, school band departments, marching band, or families looking to avoid rental contracts.
Cosmetically, the lacquer shows moderate wear throughout the instrument. The black King balance-weight emblems on the slide are worn or were previously removed; these are sticker-style logos and can be replaced if desired, though we do not stock them. The original case is included and fully functional. It appears to have an exterior paint spill (likely latex); a crafty person could remove it, or it can simply be left as-is. A mouthpiece is also included.
This Tempo model is a practical option for anyone needing a school horn that can stay in the band room, allowing the student’s nicer instrument to remain safely at home. It is also an excellent choice for marching band or pep band, where heat, cold, and accidental bumps make using a more expensive horn risky. New student trombones today sell in the ~$1,800 range; this one is priced at a fraction of that.
FAQs
Is this a good trombone for a new student?
Yes — it’s serviced, easy to play, and far more cost-effective than renting. Many parents prefer owning a dependable horn rather than paying rental fees or covering repairs on school-owned instruments.
Why use a cheaper horn for marching band?
Marching and pep-band environments are tough on instruments. Weather, rough handling, and tight formations can quickly damage a primary horn. Using an inexpensive student trombone helps protect your main instrument.
What if my child needs to leave a trombone at school?
This is an ideal “school horn.” Students carrying backpacks, books, and cases benefit greatly from leaving a horn in the band room instead of hauling one back and forth every day.
