This Courtois AC402TRR Xtreme Professional Tenor Trombone is a pre-owned instrument in excellent condition, offered here with both its original yellow brass slide and an additional custom Butler carbon fiber outer slide — giving the player two distinct performance options.
It features a .508 bore standard weight handslide and an 8" one-piece rose brass bell made from an alloy with approximately 90% copper, producing a dark, rich, and velvety tone with remarkable depth and warmth. At the same time, it has the quick response and agility needed for jazz and commercial work, easily brightening up and cutting through when pushed.
This trombone has received complete shop service, including a chemical bath, full slide alignment, and inspection. It shows no dents, dings, or signs of previous damage, and the original lacquer is in excellent condition, giving it a striking, clean appearance throughout.
The original yellow brass slide is smooth and true, while the Butler carbon fiber outer slide provides an ultra-light, fast response and a different tonal feel. Most slide conversions disrupt alignment, but this example is a rare exception — both slides fit the original inner assembly perfectly and maintain ideal alignment and seal.
This horn would be an excellent choice for professional, amateur, or advancing student players seeking a versatile commercial or jazz-style small-bore tenor with unique modular flexibility.

❓ FAQ
Q: What difference does a rose brass bell make?
A: Rose brass contains a higher copper content (around 85–90%), which tempers high overtones and creates a warmer, darker, and more complex tone color than yellow brass. It gives the instrument a rich, lyrical quality while still allowing brightness when pushed.
Q: What are the benefits of a Butler carbon fiber slide?
A: Butler carbon fiber slides are extremely lightweight, responsive, and smooth, which can improve endurance and agility, especially during fast passages or long sets. They also resist dings and dents better than metal, while maintaining excellent slide action.
Q: Where are Courtois trombones made?
A: Courtois instruments are handcrafted in Amboise, France, and are known worldwide for their high-quality construction, refined tone, and ergonomic design. The AC402TRR is part of their Xtreme Professional line, designed for top-tier jazz and commercial players.
