Yamaha YSL-2510 Trombone SN 001275 is a pre-owned student model made in Japan, originally produced for the Japan–Euro market. This model was never widely distributed in the U.S., making it a rare find today—especially in this condition.
Compared to the entry-level YSL-200AD sold in U.S. school band programs today, the 2510 is built with better materials and Yamaha’s classic craftsmanship. It’s more comparable in size and quality to the current YSL-354, which sells new in 2025 for $1,735.
Sometimes it’s hard to justify buying a brand-new trombone for your student—especially if you’re not sure they’ll stick with it. That’s why many parents turn to rental options. But rentals today are often built overseas to cut costs and may lack the quality and durability Yamaha is known for.
What sets this 2510 apart is its excellent build quality and clean, responsive slide. It plays well in tune, with accurate slide positions and consistent slotting across the partials—hallmarks of a proper Yamaha design.
This instrument received full shop service including a chemical bath, slide adjustment, and inspection. The handslide is free from dents, inner slide tube plating wear, rough spots, or damage—a crucial detail, because without a properly functioning slide, it's nearly impossible for a student to develop consistent technique or even enjoy learning to play.
The lacquer still has a bright appearance, with some wear on contact points—typical for a well-cared-for pre-owned horn. It shows signs of age, but not too bad, which is exactly what we like to see in a student trombone that’s been treated with care.
The original hard-shell case is in excellent condition. It’s form-fitting, easy to open and close, and lightweight enough for young players to carry with ease. Includes a starter mouthpiece—everything your student needs to begin their journey with confidence.
This Yamaha YSL-2510 has been sold and is now shown here as a reference in our Archive of Sold Instruments.

Why choose this Yamaha 2510 over renting a beginner trombone?
While rentals are convenient, many rental instruments today are made overseas using cheaper materials and lack the build quality needed to help a student succeed. This Yamaha 2510 was made in Japan with higher manufacturing standards, resulting in better tuning, slide alignment, and durability. It’s an ideal first trombone that won’t hold your student back.
How does the YSL-2510 compare to other Yamaha student models?
This model sits between the YSL-200AD (entry level) and the YSL-354 (step-up) in terms of quality. It offers better craftsmanship than the 200AD and feels closer to a performance-level student horn, especially with the clean slide and solid resonance. It’s a smart investment for the price point.
