This Conn 78H is a vintage medium bore straight tenor trombone from the 1960s (serial number L46676), in exceptional condition and ready to play. It features a .522 bore handslide, which is slightly larger than a traditional .500 bore jazz horn, offering enhanced tonal depth while remaining nimble and flexible.
The 8" yellow brass bell has an unsoldered rim and a beautifully rich color, both in tone and appearance. The bell engraving is crisp and clean, giving this horn the kind of visual presence that sets it apart from others in its class. The slide is outstanding β with superior alignment, no plating loss, and no drag or tension. It's one of the best slides weβve seen on a vintage medium bore Conn.
The outer slide features gold brass tubes with a nickel silver endcrook, and only minimal lacquer wear. All parts are original. Minor cosmetic imperfections have been professionally removed, and the horn requires no additional service. Includes a soft Protec gig bag.
The Conn 78H is comparable in size and feel to a Bach 36 (.525 bore), making it a great all-around horn for players who want something between a small jazz horn and a large symphonic bore. It excels in jazz combo, big band, and solo settings, offering rich tonal flexibility and a classic vintage response that experienced players will immediately recognize.
