Bach Stradivarius 50T Single Valve Bass Trombone – Pre-Owned
This is a Vincent Bach Stradivarius 50T single valve bass trombone, serial number 167990. The 50T model features the genuine O.E. Thayer valve design, which was first introduced by Bach in the 1990s and became highly regarded among bass trombone players looking for a more open, free-blowing feel.

Bach no longer offers this exact model with a single valve configuration. As of 2025, a new Bach Stradivarius single valve bass trombone model 50BO starts at around $4,700, while a new double valve Bach 50 starts at approximately $6,400, with certain models reaching over $7,000 depending on options. This makes finding a clean, original single valve example increasingly rare, especially for players who prefer the lighter feel and simplicity of a single rotor.

The Thayer valve, known for its smooth airflow and minimal resistance, gives this instrument a responsive and broad sound without compromising clarity. The Thayer valve design has a reputation for being one of the most broad and open-playing valve types compared to other options. A single valve bass trombone like this can be an excellent option for anyone learning to play bass trombone or for an accomplished player who already owns a full double valve model. Double valve bass trombones are heavier and not always the best choice for longer performances, especially when the second valve is not needed.

This particular instrument is in excellent pre-owned condition, showing only minor signs of careful use. We performed a full shop service upon arrival, including a chemical bath, valve service with inner casing inspected and polished, proper reassembly, hand slide adjustment, and inner slide polishing and alignment for maximum playability. The bell had some previous flare dents that were carefully removed and lightly hammered out; there is very minor lacquer loss in the repaired area, but it looks great now and plays perfectly.

This Bach 50T has been sold and remains here now as a reference for anyone researching this model.  πŸ”Ž See what’s currently in stock at The Brass Exchange

Why choose a single valve bass trombone today?
A single valve bass trombone offers a lighter, more straightforward alternative to double valve setups. Many players find they prefer the reduced weight and simpler design, particularly for orchestral work, section playing, or situations where extended valve range is not needed.
