Yamaha YBL-822G Doug Yeo Model Bass Trombone SN 805928 – Like New, Hand-Selected
The Yamaha YBL-822G remains one of the most respected professional bass trombones on the market today. Designed in collaboration with Boston Symphony Orchestra bass trombonist Doug Yeo, this model features a gold brass bell, dependent rotor system, and a .563 bore handslide, offering a refined combination of power, warmth, and precision for serious players.

This particular instrument came to us from the wife of a longtime friend of The Brass Exchange, a career professional bass trombonist who began his journey with the U.S. Air Force and later transitioned into a full-time symphony orchestra role. The horn was hand-selected by him out of several examplesβ€”a common and important step for pros who demand precise response and resonance.

The condition is near flawless. It has been barely played, with zero cosmetic issues, perfect valves, and a remarkably smooth handslide. It genuinely feels like an instrument that just left the Yamaha showroom, but with the added benefit of having been chosen by an experienced orchestral performer.

Is there really a difference between a factory-new instrument and one that’s been hand-selected by a pro?
Absolutely. While Yamaha is known for consistency, professionals often test multiple horns of the same model to find one that plays just right. This is one of those horns.

As of 2025, the YBL-822G is still in current production with a new retail price of over $5,800. Sure, open box options may appear for lessβ€”but few are in like-new condition and personally selected by a pro.

This would be a perfect choice for a serious player looking for a pro-level orchestral bass tromboneβ€”especially a college music major, or someone preparing for orchestra auditions and professional work.

Includes the original Yamaha factory case and unused mouthpiece.
