KING

This King 2B Liberty trombone, serial number 482508, was built in the early 1970s and remains one of the most iconic models for lead and jazz players. Known for its bright, projecting tone and quick response, the 2B has been associated with the legendary trombonist Tommy Dorsey since its introduction, making it one of the most recognizable lead trombones of the big band era and beyond.

This particular example received a full shop service here, including a chemical bath and complete inspection. The horn is free of dents and dings and is in solid playing condition. Some years ago, the bell section was overhauled and refinished with new lacquer. As is typical with older restorations, the engraving is not as crisp as on a brand-new instrument due to buffing during the prep process. Even so, the bell looks clean and presents well.

The handslide remains in its original lacquer with all original components intact. The inner tubes are straight, free from plating loss, and the outer tubes are true. The result is a smooth and reliable slide that makes this trombone easy to play at a high level. Overall, it’s a very good-playing 2B that captures the classic King character players expect.

For the strong player seeking a dedicated lead horn, this instrument would be an excellent choice. The King 2B Liberty continues to be favored by jazz and commercial players worldwide for its clarity, projection, and brilliant tone. This trombone comes with its original coffin-style case, making it both a collectible piece and a fully functional professional player’s horn.
