Bach

This Bach 42A tenor trombone features the highly regarded open wrap Hagmann valve system and is in truly exceptional condition — super mint and virtually indistinguishable from new. Serial number 223036 places it within recent production, and it was originally purchased about two years ago by a long-time customer of The Brass Exchange. It was recently traded back in and has been meticulously maintained.

The bell is 8.5" yellow brass, paired with a standard weight .547 bore Bach 42 slide and the signature open wrap Hagmann rotor. The valve action is fast, quiet, and smooth — a standout feature of the Hagmann design. This model is equally at home in orchestral settings, wind ensembles, chamber groups, or recital performance. The tone is full and warm, with classic Bach overtones that resonate beautifully across all registers.

Included with the instrument is the original Bach case in flawless condition, as well as a matching Bach mouthpiece. This model currently retails for well over $5,000 when purchased new through major retailers — an outstanding value for a professional-grade instrument in like-new condition.

What are the advantages of the Hagmann valve over traditional rotary valves?
The Hagmann valve features a more open airflow path due to its wider ports and balanced design. Many players report improved response and resonance in the valve register, as well as smoother transitions between open and engaged positions. It also requires less effort to blow compared to older-style rotors.
