CONN

This Conn 52H is a rare variation of the model, featuring a straight .547 bore slide that takes a large shank mouthpiece — unlike most 52H models which have a dual bore slide and accept small shank mouthpieces. This particular horn closely mirrors the popular Conn 88H in both bell size and overall feel but features a traditional wrap rotor design.

The 8.5" rose brass bell offers a warm, rich tone, and the horn is in excellent pre-owned condition. It has received a full professional shop service here including a chemical bath and full inspection. There are no dents, dings, or signs of previous damage, and the handslide is fast, smooth, and responsive.

This is a perfect step-up trombone for advancing students moving on from a student model, or a great secondary large bore horn for commercial players needing something a bit bigger for occasional gigs. It’s also a good option for players who want 88H-style performance without the full price tag. The original Conn hard case is included. New models in this category typically sell for over $3,000, making this one an excellent value.

This Conn 52H has been sold and is now archived here as a reference for trombone players, collectors, and educators.

What is a step-up trombone, and how does the Conn 52H compare?
A step-up trombone is designed for players who are ready to move beyond a basic student model. These instruments offer improved tone, response, and build quality — often featuring larger bores, better slides, and higher-end materials. In the trombone world, step-up models are most commonly sought by students and parents around 8th to 9th grade, when high school band directors begin recommending a more symphonic sound and better projection. The Conn 52H fits this role perfectly, with its .547 large bore slide, rose brass bell, and traditional F-attachment, offering a serious upgrade in sound and feel — without jumping all the way into professional-level pricing.
