Kanstul 760 Open Wrap Dual Bore Tenor Trombone β€” Medium Bore, Versatile Choice

The Kanstul Model 760 tenor trombone is a versatile and unique option for players seeking a medium bore sound with the flexibility of an open wrap design. The last published MSRP for this model in 2019 was $2,385, making it an accessible choice for advancing students and hobbyist players looking for quality without the full price tag of a new symphonic-level trombone.

This 760 features honey-colored lacquer, an 8" yellow brass bell, and a distinctive Z cross brace that gives it a unique look and feel. The open wrap rotor design offers freer airflow and less resistance, while the dual bore handslide (.500/.530) provides excellent flexibility and a balanced medium bore sound. It takes a small shank mouthpiece (not included), making it an ideal step-up horn for students moving beyond entry-level instruments, or for comeback players wanting a more focused, manageable setup.

Zig Kanstul was a great American craftsman, building instruments in his California factory with a reputation for hand-built quality and innovation. Towards the end of Kanstul’s run, U.S. distribution was limited, and The Brass Exchange was proud to serve as a dealer, offering a number of these well-crafted horns. You can explore other Kanstul models in our Kanstul Archive Section.

This specific 760 has had full shop service, including a chemical bath and a full mechanical check. The slide turned out great and is ready for immediate playing. It’s a great choice for band, jazz, church gigs, or pit orchestra work. While not the top pro-level Kanstul ever made, it offers exceptional value and performance for the right player. Includes an SKB travel case with the Kanstul emblem.

What makes the Kanstul 760 such a popular choice among advancing players and comeback trombonists? The blend of medium bore flexibility, open wrap freedom, and hand-built American craftsmanship makes it a truly special instrument.
