SHIRES

When Shires first introduced the Q Series line, one of the key selling points was its full compatibility with the company’s Custom Series components made at the Boston factory. This pre-owned Q30YR is a perfect example of that compatibility, blending Q Series and Custom Series parts into a seamless, high-performing instrument.

This setup features a Custom Series TW25 wide .525 straight bore slide in standard weight with a nickel end crook — an upgrade not found on a standard Q30YR. Two removable leadpipes are included: one for small shank mouthpieces and one for large shank. The bell is an 8.5" yellow brass Q30 model with floral engraving, paired with a standard Q Series rotor and a Custom Series TGX gold brass tuning slide for added tonal warmth and richness.

This horn was originally assembled and set up by a professional orchestra player — a close friend of The Brass Exchange — who took great pride in his instruments. It has been fully serviced in our shop, including a chemical bath and detailed inspection. The slide is fantastic, the valve action is smooth and quiet, and there are no dents or dings.

For players looking for something slightly smaller than a full symphonic .547 bore tenor, this horn offers an ideal balance of response, projection, and tonal color. It’s also a smart option for any Shires player who wants to mix and match components with their current setup.

Includes case and both leadpipes. A standard Q30YR in 2025 lists at $3,495 — but without the TGX tuning slide or TW25 Custom Series handslide. This instrument offers far more versatility and value.

What makes this Shires Q30YR different from a stock model?
The combination of the Custom Series TW25 slide and TGX gold brass tuning slide creates a unique tonal palette, blending warmth with precision. Both are upgrades over the standard Q Series configuration.

Can I mix these components with other Shires parts?
Yes. All Shires Q Series and Custom Series components are interchangeable, making it easy to pair this bell, slide, or tuning slide with other Shires parts you own.
