Vintage Archive – Yamaha YSL-6440 Medium Bore Tenor Trombone SN 002917
This Yamaha YSL-6440 is a well-traveled, experienced horn that still plays with confidence. Originally introduced as Yamaha’s top-tier professional model, this medium bore tenor (.525) remains a solid choice for players looking for pro-level performance at the right price.
It features an 8.5" yellow brass bell with a traditional rotor attachment and a responsive, straight slide. The horn takes a standard small shank mouthpiece, and we especially like it paired with a Bach 6½AL or similar. Though mostly unlacquered, some original finish remains, giving it a warm, vintage patina that many players prefer.
Is it smart to leave a second trombone at school while keeping your good one safe at home?
Absolutely—and not just to protect your primary horn. Many students (and parents) prefer having a reliable second instrument at school to avoid the daily hassle of transporting a large trombone. It’s also helpful for those taking private lessons or playing in ensembles outside of school, allowing them to have consistent setups in both locations.
We performed a full shop service, including chemical bath and mechanical inspection. The handslide is in good shape, with normal grip wear. The rotor is in very good playing condition, sealing well and operating smoothly.
A great option for a first trigger trombone, or a dependable backup horn.
Includes a newer Getzen hard case in excellent condition and a mouthpiece.
No service needs—clean, functional, and ready to play.
