π Historical Perspective
This King 3BF Model 2103 Trombone, built in the 1990s, was a solid working example of one of Kingβs most respected small-bore F-attachment designs. The 3BF has long been favored by players for its balance, quick response, and versatility in jazz band, pit orchestra, and concert settings.
This example showed heavy lacquer wear and honest cosmetic use over the years, giving it more of a βutility playerβ appearance than a collector piece. The slide had previous repair work and the end crook had been replaced with a slightly different brass crook of unknown origin. Despite that history, the slide was outstandingβfast, smooth, and easy to play. The bell remained straight with no crease damage.
Instruments like this are a good reminder that cosmetic condition and playing condition are not always the same. While not a high-value example visually, it still delivered proper response and dependable performance. Many players use horns like this as rehearsal instruments, backup horns, or working jazz trombones where reliability matters more than appearance.

What is a King 3BF Model 2103 trombone?
A small-bore tenor trombone with F-attachment, widely used for jazz and commercial playing.
How much is a used King 3BF worth?
