Olds Recording Tenor Trombone with F Attachment – Super Mint 1972 – Archive
This Olds Recording tenor trombone, serial number 820573, was made around 1972 and remains in super mint condition. It features a medium bore dual bore fluted handslide, designed for a small shank mouthpiece, and an 8.5" rose-gold brass bell, which provides a warm, rich sound with excellent projection and presence.
This example is one of the cleanest we’ve ever had at The Brass Exchange — and we’ve handled dozens of this exact model over the years. It has no slide issues, no plating defects, and is in outstanding original condition. It comes with the original case, a non-original mouthpiece, and also includes the original factory mouthpiece.
The Olds Recording model is an ideal choice for players who want a slightly larger bell but don’t want to move up to a full .547 bore large shank setup. It offers fantastic versatility and is especially suited for community band use, jazz band third parts, and general all-around playing.
Vintage Olds trombones have a strong reputation for excellent build quality and great playability, making them a favorite among advancing players and collectors alike.
A bit of Olds history
F.E. Olds & Son was a respected American brass instrument maker known for their innovative designs and high standards of craftsmanship. The company ceased operations in the late 1970s. Interestingly, we had the honor of handling the last instrument ever produced by Olds, verified by an official letter dated July 19, 1979 — a unique piece of brass history we will never forget.
