Conn 6H SN 964200, made around 1962 during the Elkhart era, is a true vintage classic with a unique custom twist β€” this instrument features a custom-fitted carbon fiber outer slide, most likely crafted by Butler Trombones or a comparable high-end builder. The original inner tubes, bracing, and nickel silver end crook remain intact, preserving the core character and response of the 6H while giving the player the added benefit of lighter weight and lightning-fast slide action.

This horn was owned by a professional player who was the original purchaser in the early 1960s, and it has been well maintained over the years. The 8" yellow brass bell with unsoldered rim remains straight and undamaged, with all original lacquer and no signs of trauma β€” a rarity for a working player’s instrument of this age.

The handslide is .500 bore, ideal for jazz and commercial styles, and offers exceptional responsiveness paired with the carbon fiber outer slide upgrade. We completed a full shop service, including chemical bath and final inspection, ensuring it’s ready to play at the highest level.

Includes a Conn-branded case from the same period in excellent condition.

How does a carbon fiber outer slide affect the feel and sound of a Conn 6H?
Carbon fiber slides dramatically reduce the overall weight of the instrument and enhance slide speed and agility. For a Conn 6H, this modification adds a modern touch to a classic jazz horn β€” giving the player more control, less fatigue, and improved consistency. The core tone remains pure thanks to the original inner tubes and bell section, making it a perfect blend of vintage sound and modern technology.
