CONN

Conn 6H SN M02289, made in 1969 during the final years of Conn’s Elkhart era, is one of the most iconic small bore jazz trombones ever produced. Known to many as the Frank Rosolino Model, the 6H was favored by pros throughout the 1950s and 60s — and this particular example holds up to that legacy.

This horn was previously owned by a professional player and remains in exceptional condition. We performed a full shop service, including chemical bath and a complete mechanical once-over. The slide is outstanding — fast, smooth, and free of defects or plating loss. The lacquer is mostly original, with just a few wear spots in normal skin contact areas, but overall it presents as a gorgeous vintage horn.

Specs include:

  • 8" yellow brass bell with unsoldered rim

  • .500 bore gold brass handslide

  • Nickel silver end crook

  • Original Conn Tweed case in mint condition

This 6H plays exactly as it was designed — open, colorful, and responsive, making it ideal for small group jazz, big band, or any setting where clarity and phrasing matter. Straight, dent-free, and ready to go.

Why is the Conn 6H known as the Frank Rosolino model?
Frank Rosolino, one of the greatest jazz trombonists of all time, famously played and recorded on a Conn 6H. Its compact feel, flexible tone, and lightning-fast slide made it ideal for his virtuosic improvisation and phrasing. The entire trombone section of the Stan Kenton Orchestra played 6H models during the 1960s, cementing its place in jazz history. For players seeking a pure jazz horn with legacy, the 6H is still a top choice.
