Bach 16LTS, SN 17730 — Corporation Era Trombone from the 1970s. This rare variant predates the modern 16M and is the first 16S we’ve seen here at The Brass Exchange. The “S” stamp is clearly visible on the back of the lower outer cork barrel, just beneath the “16” engraving. Models like this became popular in the 1970s and ‘80s thanks to legendary jazz trombonist Bill Watrous, who helped establish the 16LTS as a go-to horn for lead and solo work.

It features a 7.5" yellow brass bell paired with a .508 bore lightweight nickel silver slide, a configuration that offers quick response, smooth flexibility, and brilliant projection. This instrument is made from all original parts and lacquer, and we performed full shop service including chemical cleaning and full inspection. The LT slide is super straight, plating is intact, and the action is exceptionally fast—exactly what you expect from a true Corporation-era Bach slide.

There are no dents or dings. This horn plays with ease and brilliance across all registers. It’s ideal for jazz lead, commercial music, or modern big band settings, whether you're playing first chair (lead) or second chair (jazz) in a section. Many professional orchestral players also use this model for pops concerts and crossover performances, where a smaller bore instrument offers better blend and clarity. Its fast response and tonal agility even make it a compelling choice for players exploring modern improvisation and abstract jazz styles.

The original French-style Bach case is included and in excellent condition. A brand new Bach 16 in 2025 sells for well over $3600. Instruments like this one from the 1970s are built to a higher standard and offer unmatched playing character.
