This S.E. Shires 7GLW tenor bell is an 8.5" lightweight gold brass flare with a soldered rim, handcrafted in the Boston Custom Shop. As part of the Custom Series line, it was built to the highest professional standard and is compatible with all Shires valve sections and straight neckpipes.
This example was pre-owned but in excellent condition, showing only light signs of careful use. The lightweight (LW) design allows the bell to vibrate more freely, giving it quicker response and livelier resonance compared to a standard weight bell.
Gold brass, with its higher copper content, emphasizes warmth and tonal depth, while still projecting with clarity. In combination with the lightweight construction, the 7GLW offers a rich, colorful sound that responds easily across dynamics — making it a versatile choice for both orchestral and solo work.
The Brass Exchange is proud to be an Authorized S.E. Shires Pro Shop, offering direct access to Boston-made Custom Series components that are unavailable through standard dealers. While most Shires dealers only carry the Q Series (factory-built overseas), Pro Shops specialize in the full Custom Shop system, giving players unmatched flexibility to refine their setups.
This bell section has since been sold and is preserved here in our Archive of Sold Instruments & Components as a reference for players researching Shires options.
