GREENHOE

This Greenhoe GC2-Y Custom Small Bore Tenor Trombone, built by Schilke-Greenhoe in Chicago, is one of those rare horns that simply feels right from the first note. It’s slightly used, in perfect condition, with no flaws and a fantastic slide—the kind of instrument that makes you forget you’re testing it and just want to keep playing.

This is the very model that Alex Iles in Los Angeles helped prototype for Greenhoe. It’s a gorgeous, easy-playing .500-bore jazz/lead/solo tenor with an 8" yellow-brass bell, medium-lightweight construction, and a nickel-silver straight-bore handslide with a yellow-brass end crook.

Like every Greenhoe, it features ribbed ferrules, elegant engraving, and beautifully applied lacquer. The fit, finish, and attention to detail are second to none. The slide is sensational—straight, fast, and quiet—and the overall weight of the horn feels perfectly balanced.

I rarely say this about any trombone, but this one is genuinely hard to put down. The pitches line up right where they should; D and F above the staff are true to first position, and the high D and E♭ absolutely sizzle. The sound stays consistent even when pushed at louder dynamics, never backing up or losing focus.

This horn comes with two removable leadpipes (I prefer the slightly longer one) and the Schilke-Greenhoe leather backpack-style hard case, which is light, protective, and beautiful. Factory warranty is included. No mouthpiece.

FAQs

Q: What makes the GC2-Y different from other small-bore jazz trombones?
A: The GC2-Y blends the quick, nimble response of a Conn 6H with Greenhoe’s Chicago precision and balance. It plays cleanly across all registers, with unusually centered pitch and resonance for a .500 bore.

Q: Who designed this model?
A: It was prototyped with Alex Iles, one of the leading session and live trombonists in Los Angeles, whose feedback helped refine the slide balance, bracing, and tonal stability.

Q: Is this a professional-level instrument?
A: Absolutely. The GC2-Y is ideal for professional players and advanced amateurs alike, particularly for jazz, lead, or small ensemble work where clarity and projection matter most.
