SHIRES

Overview

This S.E. Shires Q36 independent bass trombone valve section is part of the respected Shires Q-Series platform and is fully compatible with both Q-Series and Custom Series bass trombone components. It has received full shop service here, including a chemical cleaning, and plays smoothly with strong compression and quiet, responsive rotors.

The original second lever paddle was missing when this component arrived, so we fabricated a tasteful replacement with a mother-of-pearl touch that feels natural under the hand and matches the look of the section nicely. Overall, this is a strong playing Shires valve section ready for players building or upgrading a modular bass trombone setup.

As an authorized S.E. Shires Pro Shop since before the Eastman acquisition, we’ve worked with many Q-Series configurations, and the Q36 valve section remains a dependable option for players who want classic Shires bass response with modular flexibility.

Player Perspective

From a professional player’s standpoint, the Q36 independent valve section offers a balanced feel with quick rotor response and smooth airflow through both valves. The independent layout keeps low-register passages stable and predictable, especially in orchestral repertoire where clarity and accuracy matter.

Players rebuilding a Shires bass trombone often choose the Q36 valve section because it integrates easily with many bell and slide options. It’s a practical way to refresh an existing setup or experiment with different component combinations without replacing an entire instrument.
