KING

The King 2B Silversonic is one of the most iconic small bore jazz trombones ever built, and this late 1960s Eastlake, Ohio example (SN 428245) represents the model at its very best. Known for its brilliance, clarity, and unmatched projection, the Silversonic quickly became the instrument of choice for countless lead players across big bands, jazz ensembles, and commercial settings.

This trombone features the hallmark sterling silver bell with a gold-plated inner flare, delivering both power and beauty. The sterling bell adds brightness and projection, while the gold wash contributes warmth and tonal richness. Together, they create the unique voice that has made the 2B Silversonic legendary.

The handslide is a dual bore lightweight nickel silver design, offering quick response, crisp articulation, and smooth action. On this example, the slide is in fantastic condition, free from wear or alignment issues, and plays as well as any Silversonic we’ve had through the shop.

Equally impressive is the instrument’s condition. This horn is in mint, original state, with no history of damage or repair. The lacquer and silver finish are clean and vibrant, reflecting how well it has been preserved. Included with the trombone are the original paperwork and the original black-and-silver coffin-style case, both of which add to its authenticity and collectibility.

We see a steady number of King 2B models come through our shop, but rarely do we encounter a Silversonic as clean and well preserved as this one. Beyond its cosmetic appeal, the best part is how it plays — with the lively, brilliant voice that has made this model a benchmark for jazz trombonists for decades.
