Conn 88H Large Bore Tenor Trombone, serial number R15946, made in 1972 during the early Abilene, TX production years. This example remains in good playing condition and offers excellent value for players seeking the signature Conn sound without the premium price.
This horn features the classic 88H specs:
8.5" rose brass bell with unsoldered rim
Standard weight .547 bore handslide
Takes a large shank mouthpiece
We performed full shop service, including a chemical bath, rotor and handslide evaluation, and full mechanical inspection. The slide action is solid, and the rotor functions correctly. There are no dents or dings, and the horn plays properly with excellent response.
The bell and slide show significant lacquer wear, and there's one small spot of early plating loss on the inner slide, which does not affect playability. For most advancing students or adult hobbyists upgrading from a small bore trombone, this slide will be a major improvement.
A brand-new Conn 88H sells for over $3,400 today. While this one has cosmetic wear, itβs a fully functioning professional instrumentβperfect for orchestra, concert band, or solo work.
Includes a newer-style Conn hard case in good condition.
Q: Is the Conn 88H a good step-up horn for serious students?
A: Absolutely. The 88H has been a staple in the orchestral world for decades. With its large bore and dark rose brass sound, itβs ideal for players advancing from smaller instruments and looking to develop a full, resonant tone.
This 88H has been sold and is now archived as a historical reference for trombone players and collectors.
