SHIRES

This pre-owned S.E. Shires TY Tenor Trombone Tuning Slide was lightly used and remains in excellent condition.

The “B” engraving seen on this example reflects an earlier Shires numbering system that was discontinued years ago. Despite the older marking, the taper is identical to the modern TY model.

The TY tuning slide is made from drawn yellow brass tubing and is fully compatible with all past and present Shires Custom Series and Q Series trombones.

TY tuning slides were designed to optimize intonation and position consistency, helping players reduce micro-adjustments between notes such as D and F above tuning Bb. This design innovation, introduced early in the Shires lineup, remains a trusted choice among both professional and advanced players.

FAQ – Answering Common Questions

Is there a difference between TY and the older B-marked slides?
No — the B stamp simply represents an early label. The taper, design, and playing response are identical to the modern TY.

What kind of impact does a tuning slide have on a trombone’s performance?
More than many players expect. A tuning slide’s taper, material, and build can noticeably influence articulation, slotting, and airflow. Shires’ modular approach lets players fine-tune their setup with components like this.
