Conn 88H Tenor Trombone, modern make, produced in Elkhart, IN. This is the current version of the legendary 88H that revolutionized large bore tenor trombone design in the 1950s. Still today, the 88H remains the benchmark model for symphonic players worldwide.
It features the classic 8.5" rose brass bell and .547" bore gold brass handslide, paired with a yellow brass tuning slide and wrap. Conn has preserved the same basic specs for decades, with only a few refinements added over time. Notably, this newer version includes a standard taper leadpipe to accept a traditional large shank mouthpiece, rather than the older Remington taper. Other modern updates include barrel-style cork bumpers (no springs), giving a slightly different feel in the F-attachment register while still maintaining the familiar 88H response.
This particular horn has barely been played and is in superb, like-new condition. The valve and slide are outstandingβno wear or mechanical issues whatsoever. Plays open and free-blowing, with superb response in all registers. Truly a pro-level instrument ready to meet the demands of orchestra, concert band, or solo literature.
Includes the original factory case and mouthpiece. Factory new, this model currently sells in the $3300β$3400 range. This one offers nearly the same experience at a significant savings.
What makes the 88H such a timeless professional trombone?
The 88H combines warmth, projection, and centered intonation that make it a first-choice horn for orchestral and symphonic players. Its rose brass bell helps darken the sound, while the medium-large bore keeps it flexible enough for solo and ensemble work.
This 88H has been sold and is now part of our archive as a reference for players and collectors seeking modern examples of this classic symphonic design.
