B&S MS44 Large Bore Tenor Trombone – Archive Reference
The B&S MS44 is a professional-grade large bore tenor trombone, designed and manufactured in Germany with exceptional craftsmanship and materials. This particular instrument is a rare prototype version developed by the designer of the MS series. It features a .547” bore nickel silver handslide paired with an 8.5” gold brass bell, delivering a warm, broad, and colorful sound with excellent projection and control.
It includes three removable leadpipes, offering flexibility for players who want to fine-tune their response and articulation. The ergonomic design makes it comfortable to hold and easy to balance, even during long playing sessions.
This instrument plays dark, open, and resonant—perfect for serious orchestral musicians, recitalists, and advanced students seeking a step up from standard models. The build quality is top tier, and the tonal character has a rich European sound profile that’s a noticeable departure from the more common American-made tenor trombones.
Condition-wise, this horn was in immaculate shape when it passed through our shop. It required no repairs or servicing and was ready for the stage upon arrival. It also came with a BAM Classic case, known for its durability, lightweight design, and protective fit.
This MS44 is now archived as a reference for musicians interested in professional-level German trombones with a unique sonic and ergonomic feel.
