CONN

Overview

This Conn 48H vintage trombone from the Elkhart era is a beautifully preserved example of Conn’s classic Connstellation small-bore design. Built with an 8″ nickel-silver plated bell and a .500 bore gold-brass handslide, it shares many core specifications with the well-known Conn 6H — yet the playing experience is distinctly different.

From a player’s perspective, the nickel-silver bell tends to smooth some of the highest overtones, giving the 48H a slightly darker and more centered tonal profile compared to the brighter yellow-brass 6H. That said, when pushed in a lead or commercial setting, the 48H still has tremendous projection and presence. These horns were fantastic jazz instruments in the 1960s, and they remain exceptional today for big band, commercial, and studio work.

We’ve handled dozens of Conn 48H models over the years at The Brass Exchange, and examples in this level of preservation are increasingly rare. This horn retains all original parts and lacquer, with a flawless handslide free of plating defects. The inner tubes are straight and smooth, with excellent alignment and playability.

The original case is included and remains in excellent condition.
