Vintage Archive – F.E. Olds Super Small Bore Tenor Trombone, Los Angeles SN 32746, c. 1948–49
This early Olds Super is a stunning example of postwar California craftsmanship, made in Los Angeles just before the move to Fullerton. A true dual bore model with the signature 7 3/8" gold brass bell and the ornate nickel silver tone ring (garland), hand-engraved around the rim—a hallmark of the Super series.

This one plays beautifully. The fluted handslide, known for its octagonal sides, is in excellent condition and free from plating defects. It also features a unique touch—a balance weight added by the previous owner, not typically seen on this model but installed cleanly and tastefully.

Its original lacquer has aged gracefully, giving it the vintage patina that players and collectors alike appreciate. While this is clearly a collectible professional-grade trombone, it's also perfectly suited for today’s beginner or advancing student. Why? Because it’s light, responsive, easy to play—and frankly, built better than many student horns produced today at double the price.

Includes the original vintage case in good condition. Mouthpiece not included.

If you're wondering whether a professional horn from 75 years ago could still hold its own, ask yourself:
Why do vintage Olds Super trombones still play better than many new instruments today?
The answer lies in craftsmanship, materials, and the enduring design that made these horns legendary.

This Olds Super Trombone has been sold and is now shown here as a reference for anyone researching historic Olds trombones.
