KING
3B
Original Coffin Style
.508
8" yellow brass

This King 3B from the mid-1970s is one of the most pristine examples we have ever seen at The Brass Exchange. Known as perhaps the most popular jazz tenor trombone since the early 1960s, the 3B remains a staple among professional and advancing players alike.

This particular instrument was a single-owner horn, played for only one semester before being carefully stored for decades. It has never been damaged, dented, or scratched. The handslide is excellent, with perfectly straight tubes and fast, responsive action. Tonally, it delivers the classic “King sound” that players love—bright, clear, and flexible enough for jazz, lead, or small group work.

The package is as complete as it gets: the original case in mint condition, the original mouthpiece still in its box, the case key, and King paperwork. Collectors and players rarely encounter a 3B this clean, making it not only a fantastic player’s horn but also a museum-worthy find.

FAQ

📌 Why is the King 3B so popular?
The King 3B has been one of the most widely used jazz tenors for over 60 years. Its .508 bore and 8" bell give it a brilliant, colorful sound with quick response, making it ideal for jazz soloists, section players, and studio work.

👉 How does a vintage 1970s 3B compare to a new one?
Modern 3B models are excellent, but many players prefer vintage Cleveland and Eastlake-built 3Bs for their build quality, feel, and resonance. This example is especially notable for its mint condition and originality.

What was included with this horn?
This 3B came with its original case, mouthpiece, paperwork, and accessories—all preserved in superb condition, making it as close to a time-capsule King 3B as you can find.
