King 2B Liberty, H.N. White Era, made in the mid-1960s. This is a classic small bore jazz trombone with all original parts and lacquer. Likely the most popular lead horn of all time, it’s the model famously used by Tommy Dorsey and favored by countless jazz legends since.
King enthusiasts know the horns built under H.N. White’s supervision are the gold standard—lighter, more responsive, and with a signature tone that cuts through the section while staying warm and controlled. This one lives up to the reputation.
The horn has had full shop service, including a complete slide set-up. The inner tubes are straight with very true alignment, and the slide feels loose and fast—ideal for lead or solo work. Bell section has never had damage or repair. Some lacquer wear is visible on the neck and hand contact areas, but nothing that affects structure or playability. Finish still retains its classic vintage glow.
Includes the original King “coffin-style” case in usable condition.
A strong choice for advancing students, lead players in jazz ensembles, or anyone looking to capture that unmistakable King 2B sound in an original-era instrument.
Why is the King 2B Liberty such a popular jazz trombone?
The King 2B is known for its lightweight build, responsive feel, and brilliant tone—perfect for lead trombone work. Players like Tommy Dorsey helped define its legacy. Its .481/.491 dual bore slide makes for effortless articulation, especially in upper registers.
What makes H.N. White era instruments different from later King models?
Trombones made under the H.N. White label (pre-1965) were crafted with different specs and build quality than those made after the company changed hands. Many players and collectors believe the older horns play better and hold value more consistently.
Is the original King “coffin case” included useful for modern players?
Yes, although heavier and bulkier than modern gig bags, the coffin case provides excellent protection and has vintage appeal. Many players choose to store it and use a lightweight case for daily transport.
