This King 2B Silversonic, made in Cleveland, Ohio during the early 1950s, is presented here in our Archive of Sold Instruments as a historical reference for collectors and jazz trombone enthusiasts.

The 2B Silversonic is one of the most iconic small-bore jazz trombones ever produced.
This example was exceptionally clean for its age — the bell had never been damaged and retained crisp, ornate H.N. White-era engraving.
The outer bell lacquer had been removed, leaving a classic bright silver exterior with original gold-plating on the inner bell that added warmth to the tone.

The handslide, serial number 327XXX, appeared to retain its original silver-plated finish with some of the original gold plating still present on the cork barrels and grip area.
The neckpipe had been re-lacquered, and the horn had received full shop service, including a chemical bath.
It was sold with a new Cronkhite TSG Cordura backpack-style gig case, making it an ideal instrument for an active player needing something easy to carry to gigs or campus rehearsals.

The slide functioned well as delivered, though it had not yet received a full precision set-up.
Buyers often find this acceptable, with the option to have the slide further optimized if they fall in love with the horn.

Whether for players seeking that classic bright yet warm Silversonic sound or collectors of early-H.N. White-era craftsmanship, this 2B represented an outstanding example of one of the most beloved small-bore jazz trombones in American brass history.

What defines the H.N. White-era Silversonic horns?
Built in Cleveland, Ohio before the King company changed hands, these horns are renowned for their distinctive tone, ornate engraving, and durable build.

What is special about the gold-washed inner bell?
The thin gold plating inside the bell slightly mellows the otherwise bright projection of the silver exterior and adds to the classic visual appeal prized by players and collectors.

How does the King 2B compare to the larger 3B?
The 2B has a .481”/.491” dual-bore slide and delivers a more agile, focused sound ideal for lead and small-group jazz playing, while the 3B, with its larger bore, has a bit more breadth and power.

Are early-1950s H.N. White horns still sought after?
Yes. These vintage examples remain highly valued by professionals and collectors for their responsive feel and unmistakable tone, often preferred over modern reproductions.
