YAMAHA

The Yamaha YSL-354V is a student-level valve trombone, designed as a practical option for players who prefer valves over a slide. This vintage example came to us with considerable cosmetic wear but was given a complete shop service, including a mechanical inspection and internal cleaning. The result was an instrument that played exactly as intended—responsive, reliable, and musically versatile.

Despite the worn lacquer typical of long-term use, the trombone was structurally straight and in excellent working order. The valves had strong compression, quick response, and smooth action across all registers, making it ideal for advancing players.

The YSL-354V features a compact design with Yamaha’s characteristic build quality, making it a popular choice for:

  • Marching bands, where valve operation is easier in motion than a slide.

  • Jazz band use, offering a different articulation style than slide trombones.

  • Multi-instrumentalists (trumpet or baritone players) who want to double on trombone without learning slide positions.

Includes the original Yamaha case in good functional condition.

This instrument is now preserved in our Vintage Archive of Sold Instruments, serving as a resource for musicians and collectors researching Yamaha valve trombone models.
