Vintage Archive – Conn 6H Jazz Trombone, 1961 Elkhart Era
This is a classic Conn 6H small bore tenor trombone made in 1961, right in the middle of the prized Elkhart production era. Built with an 8" bell and .500 bore, this 6H exemplifies the qualities that have made it one of the most sought-after jazz trombones of the 20th century.

The bell section is unlacquered, allowing for an open, natural resonance that serious jazz players often prefer. It has no signs of major damage or repairs, keeping the original integrity of the horn intact. The overall aesthetic shows typical aging for a horn of this vintage, but without structural concerns.

The handslide is very straight and exceptionally fastβ€”truly about as good as a slide can be. The inner tubes are in excellent condition, with only light, smooth wear spots that do not hinder performance in any way. The response is crisp and clean, with an effortless feel in rapid passages.

Why is the 6H so revered among jazz players even today?
The Conn 6H is known for its ideal balance of brightness and warmth, making it perfect for lead, combo, or solo work. It plays evenly across registers and has a blow that feels natural and responsiveβ€”exactly what you want in a pro-level small bore tenor.

This horn would have made a fantastic jazz trombone for any serious player, and now resides in our Sold Archive as a reference for vintage 6H listings.
