✦ Historical & Educational Perspective

The Bach Omega TB200 represents a well-balanced intermediate trombone for advancing students who benefit from a medium-bore setup before moving to a full .547 large-bore instrument. Featuring an 8" gold brass bell, .525 medium-bore handslide, and a traditional-wrap F-attachment, the TB200 offered a comfortable step-up from entry-level models while keeping the familiar feel of Bach’s professional 36-series design.

This particular example was one of the cleanest TB200s to come through the shop. The handslide was exceptionally straight and fast—one of the best TB200 slides we’ve ever had here. It showed no dents or dings, and the lacquered gold brass bell presented a warm tone ideal for concert band, youth orchestra, and solo work.

The slide included a cork barrel ring, making it easier for younger players—often 6th through 8th graders—to maintain a secure hold and proper hand position. The F-attachment added valuable extended-range options for band music while helping students transition toward the feel of a full professional tenor.

The original case was fully functional but on the heavier side; many parents later opt for a lightweight Protec or similar case for everyday school use. The horn originally included a mouthpiece and lubricants, arriving fully serviced and ready to play right out of the box.

Common Questions

Is the Bach TB200 a good upgrade from a beginner trombone?

Yes. The .525 medium-bore size and F-attachment make the TB200 an ideal step between student horns and pro-level .547 instruments. It offers more resonance and flexibility while remaining manageable for younger players.

What’s the difference between the TB200 and the Bach 36B?

The TB200 is based loosely on the 36B design but built for developing players. It is lighter, more forgiving, and easier to control—while still giving students many of the benefits of a professional Bach dual-bore feel.

Who is the TB200 best suited for?

Advancing middle-school musicians (6th–8th grade), early high-school students, and players who need the extended range and flexibility of an F-attachment without the weight and resistance of a full large-bore horn.

Does a medium-bore trombone work in concert band and jazz band?

Absolutely. The TB200’s .525 bore provides a warm ensemble tone for concert band while still remaining agile enough for jazz or solo playing. It’s one of the most versatile student step-up designs.
