B&S Bass Trombone German Make – Perfect Condition (Model 3061)
The B&S 3061 is a high-quality bass trombone made in Germany and is closely related to the Courtois 502. Both models originate from the same parent company, Buffet Crampon, one of the top European brass manufacturers today. While this model is rarely seen in the U.S. due to limited dealer support, it remains a hidden gem among professional-level bass trombones.
This particular horn features a 9.5" one-piece gold brass bell, delivering a rich, dark tone with excellent projection and warmth. It has an independent in-line rotor valve setup (Bb/F/Gb/D) that has been expertly upgraded by a respected technician and professional bass trombonist. The result is an instrument with smooth, fast valve action, remarkable comfort in the left hand, and virtually silent operation.
The .562 bore nickel silver handslide is medium weight and contributes to a balanced feel and excellent slide response. Like other German-made basses, the 3061 offers clear articulation, quick response, and a big, weighty sound that can easily fill any ensemble or concert hall. It speaks easily and projects forward without sounding harsh—an ideal choice for players used to gold brass Bachs who are looking for something with a more refined European character.
This instrument was in perfect condition when it passed through our shop—visually stunning and fully performance-ready with no servicing needed. It came with a highly protective, blue-covered hardshell plywood case that offers both durability and a touch of elegance. Mouthpiece not included.
In our experience, this model outperforms many other bass trombones under the $4K range. Compared to Yamaha, Conn-Selmer, or even Q-Series alternatives, this B&S stands out for tone, build, and comfort. A new one in Europe would retail around $5,600, and we believe it offers equal or greater value here in the U.S.
