SHIRES

This is a pre-owned S.E. Shires 2YMT7 8" bell for a medium-bore tenor trombone setup.
The bell is raw brass (not lacquered or engraved), stamped 2YMT7 8 as is standard for all Shires components.
It has no dents or dings and is in excellent structural and playing condition — an ideal choice for players seeking a versatile medium-weight bell with classic Shires tonal character.

What does “2YMT7” mean in the Shires lineup?

The “2” indicates Shires’ #2 bell family, which is defined by its unsoldered bell rim — a hallmark inspired by vintage Conn trombones. This rim style is found across all #2 bells regardless of alloy (yellow, gold, or rose brass) or gauge (lightweight, medium, or standard), and is available in every size of the Shires line, from 8" small-bore jazz bells to 9.5" bass trombone bells.

The “Y” specifies yellow brass, while the “M” designates medium weight.
The “T7” refers to a bell-flare treatment that thins the metal slightly toward the outer edge of the flare, making it just a bit lighter and more vibrant.
Importantly, the T7 treatment can be applied to bells of any size, from small-bore jazz to bass trombones — it is not specific to .525 medium-bore setups.
