OLDS

Olds Special trombone, vintage early 1970s model. This example features a 7.5" brass bell finished in nickel silver plating, paired with a dual bore .485"/.500" handslide — a configuration that provides players with both flexibility and rich tonal color.

All parts and lacquer on this instrument are original, and it has never had any damage or repairs. It’s in great shape overall, with no dents or dings, and no service needed to improve appearance or playability. The handslide has received a professional setup and is tension free, making it smooth and reliable in all registers.

The Olds Special offers a unique sound character — naturally dark and warm, yet able to brighten up with the right mouthpiece and playing approach. Forward projection is excellent, making it a strong choice for small ensemble jazz, commercial work, or even solo playing where clarity and versatility are needed.

Comes with its original case in good condition. Mouthpiece not included.

What makes vintage Olds trombones from this era stand out to players today?
Vintage Olds trombones from the 1960s and 70s have become increasingly popular with players seeking unique tonal options and craftsmanship not always found in modern production horns. The Olds Special in particular is known for its balanced response, quality materials, and excellent handslide design. These instruments often feature a slightly heavier build and specialized alloy combinations, contributing to their dark, centered sound. For many players, an Olds trombone represents an ideal blend of vintage character and professional-level performance at a more accessible price point.
