Overview
This Yamaha YSL-882UG Xeno large-bore tenor trombone features an 8.5″ Xeno gold brass bell, .547 yellow brass handslide, and a traditional-wrap F-attachment. Instruments like this were primarily produced for the Japanese domestic market and were not commonly distributed through U.S. dealer channels.
Over the years we were able to source a number of these Japan-market Yamaha Xeno trombones through our international dealer network. They quickly became favorites with players looking for a professional-level Xeno tenor in traditional-wrap configuration.
This example arrived in excellent playing condition with no history of damage or repair. The handslide is smooth and responsive, and the valve section operates cleanly. It includes the original Yamaha flight case and mouthpiece.
Traditional-wrap Xeno models like the 882UG appeal to many players because the F-attachment tuning slide does not extend far behind the horn. In tight orchestra pits, school band seating, or crowded rehearsal spaces, this makes the instrument easier to manage and less prone to accidental bumps. Tonally, the difference between open and traditional wrap is subtle, while the ergonomics can be significant.
For advancing players seeking their first professional large-bore tenor, these Yamaha Xeno models remain dependable choices.

🏛️ Historical Perspective
Yamaha’s Xeno line became widely respected for consistent build quality and reliable performance. Japan-market variations like the YSL-882UG traditional-wrap model offered options not always available through U.S. distribution, giving players more configuration choices within the Xeno lineup.
