Is a 1950s King 2B Liberty still a good choice for modern jazz players?
Absolutely. The 2B from this era offers the quick response, brilliant tone, and flexible range that jazz and commercial players still demand today. Originally designed for legendary big band leader Tommy Dorsey, the King 2B Liberty was both his primary solo instrument and the horn he played while leading his iconic orchestra. One of the most beloved jazz ballads of all time, βIβm Getting Sentimental Over You,β was recorded using a King 2Bβhelping cement its reputation as the gold standard for lead and solo jazz playing. With a tight slide, no repairs needed, and all-original parts, this 1955 example is a beautifully preserved piece of both musical and American manufacturing history.
