REYNOLDS

Reynolds Contempora Sterling Trombone – 1955 Medium Bore Jazz Horn (Sold)

This is a rare and stunning example of the Reynolds Contempora Sterling trombone, built circa 1955 during the company’s peak years in Cleveland, OH. This particular model features a sterling silver 8.5" bell with gold-plated inner flare and elegant gold leaf engraving—a visually striking and musically expressive instrument with both collector and performance appeal.

The bore is medium (.525 estimated), making this an ideal option for jazz and commercial players seeking the wide, energetic tone associated with sterling bell horns. The sound is big, broad, and warm, with a quick response and a forward projection that’s full of character. Few horns deliver the same blend of vintage tonal color and modern playability.

This example is 100% original, including factory finish, parts, and hardware. There are no signs of damage or prior repairs, and it remains in superb playing condition. A true collector's piece, this horn stands out even among vintage Reynolds models. Very few Contempora Sterlings were produced with this level of detail and preservation.

Includes the original coffin-style Reynolds case and matching mouthpiece.
