The Olds Ambassador A20 tenor trombone with F-attachment is a rare survivor from the 1960s era, representing one of the classic American-made student and step-up models of its time. This particular example has been fully de-lacquered, revealing a beautiful raw brass patina with warm color and natural character.

The handslide and rotor valve set are in good playing condition, making it suitable for someone looking for an affordable first trigger trombone. The 8.5" yellow brass bell, combined with the traditional rotor and dual bore handslide, provides a broad, warm sound with plenty of flexibility. Designed for a small shank tenor mouthpiece, it offers easy response and comfortable handling for younger players, casual adult students, or anyone looking to add an F-attachment trombone without breaking the bank.

Built in Fullerton, California during the late 1960s, the Olds Ambassador line was widely regarded as the gold standard for student-level brass instruments at the time. Many players today fondly remember starting their musical journey on an Ambassador, often commenting, β€œThose Ambassadors were built like tanks.” The reputation for durability, reliability, and straightforward serviceability has carried on for decades.

While Olds was known for producing robust entry-level horns, these instruments were crafted with care and quality materials, making them more than capable of lasting generations when properly maintained. This particular A20 remains free of major dents or structural damage and has been carefully maintained over the years.

Original case and mouthpiece included. This instrument has been sold and is shown here for reference to Olds trombone enthusiasts and collectors.

Why is the Olds Ambassador with F-attachment still popular today?

The Olds Ambassador with F-attachment remains popular because of its solid build, dependable playability, and warm, classic American brass sound. Originally marketed as a student or intermediate model, it offers qualities that appeal to advancing young players, casual adult students, and returning players alike. Its robust construction and straightforward design make it an excellent value, especially for those wanting a first trigger trombone without committing to the higher price of professional models.
