This is a 1982 Bach 42B large bore tenor trombone in exceptional, near-mint condition. It features a .547" bore, 8.5" yellow brass bell, traditional rotor valve, and standard wrap F-attachment. This horn was built during a strong production era when Bach’s quality control and craftsmanship were still deeply influenced by its Mt. Vernon heritage — and it shows.

The handslide is superb: fast, smooth, and evenly aligned with no mechanical issues or tension. It has been professionally cleaned and serviced, and no further work is needed. The valve section is clean, quick, and seals properly. Overall playability is excellent — this horn responds with clarity and breadth throughout all registers, making it a superb choice for serious players.

Cosmetically, this 42B stands out. There are only minimal signs of use — even the grip area shows almost no wear, which is rare for a horn over 40 years old. The lacquer retains a beautiful golden hue and shine, and there are no signs of dents or prior repair. The original case is included and is also in near-perfect condition. A mouthpiece is included as well.

Why choose a vintage Bach 42B over a new model?
As of 2025, Today’s new 42B models retail for over $4000,  but many professional players find that vintage Bach instruments from the early Elkhart era — like this 1982 example — offer better resonance, construction quality, and slide performance. This particular horn is an outstanding option for anyone stepping up to a pro-level large bore trombone for the first time, or for a returning player seeking a traditional Bach sound without compromise.

This trombone has been sold and is now shown here as a historical reference for collectors and musicians.
