✦ Historical Perspective

The Bach TB200B “Omega” filled a key role in Bach’s lineup as a true step-up tenor trombone for advancing players. Positioned between student models and professional large-bore instruments, the TB200B was designed to introduce players to the feel and flexibility of an F-attachment without the added physical demands of a full symphonic horn.

Built around a .525 bore handslide and an 8" gold brass bell, the Omega shares design intent with classic Bach medium-large bore instruments such as the 36B. The result is a balanced, centered response that supports developing technique while still offering enough tonal breadth for concert band, orchestral, and ensemble settings.

This archived example was fully prepared for immediate use prior to sale, receiving professional cleaning and shop service and being delivered as a complete, player-ready package. Included were a new Bach 6½AL mouthpiece along with a trombone maintenance and care kit, covering slide lubrication, valve oil, and routine upkeep — meaning no additional trips to the music store were needed after delivery.

From a mechanical standpoint, the instrument stood out for its exceptionally smooth handslide and quick, quiet valve action, both critical features for players learning to integrate trigger use seamlessly into their playing. Cosmetically, the trombone showed honest signs of use consistent with careful ownership: minimal lacquer wear on the bell section, some lacquer wear in typical hand-contact areas on the handslide, and cosmetic scuffing on the case exterior. These details did not affect playability or structural integrity and are typical for well-maintained instruments of this type.

At the time this model was offered new, the TB200B sold in the mid-$2,400 range. Comparable intermediate Bach F-attachment trombones now commonly list closer to — or above — $2,700, though the TB200B itself is no longer in production. As such, it remains a useful reference point when evaluating modern Bach intermediate trigger trombones.

📸 Photography From Our Early Archive

The photographs shown on this page come from an earlier period in the history of The Brass Exchange. As our business has grown, our instrument photography has evolved significantly — including advances in lighting, background control, and fine-detail capture of engraving, bell flares, and mechanical components.

These earlier images remain part of our archive as a visual record of the instrument and of the shop’s own progression over time. While newer listings reflect our current fine-art photography standards for brass instruments, these photos continue to provide accurate documentation and historical context for archived instruments.

Questions Trombone Players Often Ask

Who was the Bach TB200B designed for?
The TB200B was built for advancing players ready to move into their first F-attachment tenor trombone, often transitioning from a straight tenor or student-level instrument.

How does the TB200B compare to professional Bach models?
While not a full professional symphonic trombone, the TB200B borrows core design concepts from Bach’s medium-large bore lineup, offering a familiar Bach feel with reduced resistance and physical demand.

Is cosmetic lacquer wear a concern on an instrument like this?
Light lacquer wear in hand-contact areas is normal on well-played instruments and does not affect tone, response, or longevity when the horn is structurally sound.
