This Vintage Olds P-22 George Roberts Model Bass Trombone is an outstanding example of one of the most respected single-valve bass trombones ever produced. Built in the 1970s, the P-22 was designed in collaboration with George Roberts, the legendary “Mr. Bass Trombone,” whose tone defined countless recordings in Hollywood studios, television orchestras, and big band settings.

George Roberts favored the single-valve configuration throughout his career, believing it offered superior responsiveness and simplicity for the styles he played most. The P-22 embodies this philosophy, delivering a resonant, singing bass trombone sound that remains highly sought-after by players and collectors alike.

About this Olds P-22:
This model features a 9" gold brass bell paired with a nickel silver rotary valve wrap and tuning slides. The handslide has lightweight nickel outer tubes with a .565 bore, giving it an open, effortless feel. The combination of bell material and slide construction makes this trombone equally at home in commercial big band work or orchestral bass trombone parts.

This instrument was in mint condition when sold, with all original parts, lacquer, and engraving intact. The handslide action was exceptionally smooth, with no plating wear on the inner tubes. It had never been damaged, dented, or subjected to major repairs. We performed full shop service prior to sale, including cleaning, valve alignment, and slide optimization, ensuring peak performance for its new owner.

Included was the original Olds case in excellent condition, as well as a George Roberts model mouthpiece—completing the package for players who want to experience the instrument exactly as Roberts intended.
