CONN

This Conn 6H bell section dates from the 1960s and represents a classic example of Elkhart-era craftsmanship. Originally designed as part of Conn’s highly respected 6H small bore tenor trombone line, this bell section retains the signature warmth and focus that made the 6H a favorite among jazz and commercial players.

The bell section has been de-dented and given a full chemical cleaning to ensure excellent playability. The tuning slide crook was replaced with new tubing and relacquered, and the neckpipe also received a fresh relacquer. Despite some cosmetic wear, this bell plays beautifully and offers the rich, flexible sound that Conn instruments from this era are known for.

The Conn 6H is famously associated with legendary jazz trombonist Frank Rosolino, who played a 6H for most of his career. Additionally, at one point, the entire trombone section of the Stan Kenton Orchestra (except for the bass trombone) played 6H models, showcasing the instrument’s exceptional suitability for demanding big band and jazz settings.

This bell section would make an excellent candidate for a custom scratch-brush finish or additional personal modifications, allowing a player or technician to build a unique hybrid instrument tailored to specific playing needs. Conn 6H components remain popular among players looking to customize their setups or restore vintage horns, as they provide a versatile foundation for various configurations.
